Endorsed Candidate: Scott Kluge

Scott Kluge is an engaged parent and active member of the District 109 community who chose to live in Deerfield with his family starting in 2007 because of its first-rate schools. Though the community is known for its excellent schools, he also sees opportunities to improve students’ educational experiences.

“Specifically, we need to challenge ourselves to continuously improve every component of our curriculum so that we engage and inspire our children every day,” Kluge said. “We have made great strides in our Science, Technology, Math and Music programs and we have an opportunity to continue and accelerate those enhancements throughout the rest of the curriculum.”

Currently, Scott is a member of District 109’s School Board, a member of the Finance and Facilities Development committees, and is the chairman of the district’s Technology committee. In addition to being a volunteer in his children’s classrooms, he has also coached AYSO soccer and DYBA baseball teams and currently is an active manager of three student teams who compete annually in the Destination Imagination program where students use creativity, teamwork, and learn hands-on skills to solve technical and scientific challenges.

“As a parent and taxpayer, I expect our kids to receive a top-notch education, and I expect the district to be an expert in how to deliver that high-quality education in a cost-effective manner."

He notes that the district has strong taxpayer support and is fortunate to be in a strong financial position.

“Since the 2005 referendum we have had a strong operating budget that allows us to make modest investments in improving the educational experience each year,” Kluge continued. “We need to push ourselves to make our schools meaningfully better while living within our current tax basis.”

In his career, Kluge has spent over 20 years in business. He is currently managing director at Nexus Advisors, a strategy consulting firm in Chicago.

He works with clients to use primary research and information sources to understand customer needs and then works with those clients to help them make organizational changes to better align with those needs.

Kluge holds a B.A. in marketing from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA in finance, management, and strategy from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Scott and his wife have three children in the district. In his free time, he likes to travel with family and friends, read about current events and historical fiction, and experiment with how to use new technology.
