Caucus Endorses Three Candidates for DPS 109 Board of Education

DEERFIELD, Ill. (Friday, December 7) -- The Deerfield District 109 Caucus voted to endorse three candidates for the Board of Education on Thursday, December 6. The candidates will be running for three of the four open 109 Deerfield Public Schools (DPS) Board of Education seats in the April 2 consolidated election. Each seat is for a four‐year term.

They are (in alphabetical order):

• Kenneth Ashman

• Nick Begley

• Ryan Kuo

Following two rounds of interviews on November 27 and December 6, the Caucus members slated all three of the candidates who applied. All three are current board members seeking another term.

"The Caucus had a vigorous interview process and a healthy debate," said David Mutnick, Caucus Chair. "We were determined to ensure that only highly qualified candidates could earn our support."

"While neighboring districts face uncertainty and some tough decisions ahead, having three incumbent board members seek to continue their roles offers District 109 continuity and stability," Mutnick continued.

Kenneth Ashman, an attorney and former teacher, has lived in Deerfield for 17 years and has four children. He has served on the DPS 109 Board of Education since 2015.

Nick Begley, a commercial banker, has lived in Deerfield for 27 years and has four children, one of whom still attends DPS 109 schools. He has served on the DPS 109 Board of Education for over thirteen years and currently serves as President.

Ryan Kuo is head of private equity for an investment group. He has lived in Deerfield for five years and has three children in District 109 pre-school and elementary schools. He joined the DPS 109 Board of Education by appointment to fill a vacancy in 2017.

More biographical information will be made available about the three endorsed candidates on the Caucus website in the coming weeks.

The DPS District 109 Caucus is a nonpartisan, community-based organization dedicated to maintaining and expanding the tradition of excellence manifest in Deerfield's elementary and middle schools, with its role in candidate endorsement at the core of its commitment to the citizens and students served by District 109 schools.
