Endorsed Candidate: Nicholas (Nick) Begley

A 24-year Deerfield resident, Nick Begley is seeking his fourth term on the DPS 109 Board of Education.

“It’s about the kids,” Begley says in response to why he is seeking re-election. “There’s nothing more important than giving them the best possible education.”

A graduate of Chicago Public Schools, Begley says he never takes it for granted how lucky Deerfield is to have such high-performing public schools—and why the district must work hard to constantly balance competing interests including the challenges of tough financial times.

Begley is a member of the finance and facilities development committees. Prior to joining the Board, he was a founding member and treasurer of SOS 109, the community group that helped steer the successful 2005 operating referendum for District 109.

Bringing his strong financial perspective to the Board, Begley says, “I look at the district as a $50 million business, with a product that’s not that easy to measure. And I’m always asking, ‘What’s the return on the dollar investment?’ We need to constantly review our programs and the results and allocate resources where the results are greatest.”

Begley received his BS/BA from Roosevelt University and a master’s of management from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School. He is a 27-year banking professional and a certified public accountant.

An active community member, Begley has been involved in the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), Deerfield Park District athletics, and Boy Scouts. He has four children, one of whom currently attends a District 109 school.
