Endorsed Candidate: Jodi Shapira

Seeking a first term on the DPS 109 Board of Education, Jodi Shapira brings her expertise in teaching and curriculum development. She has lived in Deerfield for 18 years.

When asked why she considered running, Shapira responded, “We need to be looking broadly, deeply, and more critically at our schools. Our children deserve the best education… If we don’t continue to grow, they can’t either.”

Shapira holds a master’s of education in curriculum and instruction from Loyola University and received her BA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She previously taught for 13 years in private and public school settings, including Greely Elementary School in Winnetka for eight years. During her time as teacher, she developed several curricula, including ones for outdoor education and disability awareness.

While she currently works in retail as a designer for Pottery Barn, she has kept active in DPS 109 schools through roles in the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) at Kipling School, including serving as its PTO secretary and president. She was also a member of the PTO Presidents’ Council, which met monthly with the superintendent and school board members, and has served on various committees at Shepard Middle School.

Shapira has three sons—two who attend Deerfield High School and one who is in a 109 middle school.
