Endorsed Candidate: Ron Worth

Ron Worth was born and raised in Deerfield. He moved back to the area with his wife and four children after living in California’s Silicon Valley for 12 years.

“Our decision to return to Deerfield was based on the fantastic reputation of Districts 109 and 113 after doing extensive research of schools in the North Shore,” Worth said.

In January 2011, Worth was appointed to a vacant 109 Board of Education position, where he has successfully served for the past two years.

“I have a strong inner desire to make District 109 the best school district on the planet within our financial meansand use my experience on the Board to do so,” Worth continued. “I truly believe that the key to our country’s future is to provide the best education and learning environment for our children.”

An active member of the Deerfield community, Worth has coached over 40 sports teams with his four children, including baseball, softball, soccer, and basketball. He also cares deeply about academics, having been involved in Walden School’s science night for the past 10 years. Before joining the 109 Board of Education, he worked with the superintendent and assistant superintendent of learning on a new approach to the science curriculum. This included incorporating more hands-on science into the curriculum, running a pilot program called NASA 101, and launching a science mentorship program through Northwestern University.

Worth was also a member of the district’s 21st Century Skills Task Force and the recent Technology Task Force. He has continued his interest in technology and science as a Board member, serving on its policy and technology committees.

“I am proud to be an integral part of a district that has a great student body, an excellent staff, a solid teacher’s contract, and that is financially strong,” Worth said.

Professionally, Worth is a founder of FlashCut CNC, an engineering and robotics company based in Deerfield. In his 20th year as CEO, combined with 6 years spent at IBM, he has learned what it takes to keep innovating and striving for excellence while making financially sound decisions. He says he takes great pride in having interns from Deerfield High School and introducing them to engineering and hands-on work.

A believer in the power of education, Worth holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Stanford University, an M.S. in manufacturing engineering from Northwestern University, and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from University of Illinois.

Ron and his wife, Pam, are the proud parents of a son and three daughters, who all attend or attended DPS 109 schools. He likes to play games with his kids, run, hike, and bike during his free time. He is also an avid downhill and cross-country skier. Ron is an also a loyal White Sox fan.
