Endorsed Candidate: Scott Kluge

Scott Kluge is an engaged parent and active member of the District 109 community who chose to live in Deerfield with his family starting in 2007 because of its first-rate schools. Though the community is known for its excellent schools, he also sees opportunities to improve students’ educational experiences.

“Specifically, we need to challenge ourselves to continuously improve every component of our curriculum so that it is aligned with the Common Core Standards*—and so that we engage and motivate our children every day,” Kluge said. “I am highly committed to making our schools as strong as they can be for all students.”

Currently, Scott is a leader of the Deerfield Education Foundation and is Walden Elementary School’s PTO liaison to the Deerfield Public Schools District 109 Board of Education. In the past two years, he has served on the district’s strategic planning and monitoring committees and sat on a committee that provided input for the recently concluded superintendent search. In addition to being a frequent volunteer in his children’s classrooms, he has also coached AYSO soccer and DYBA baseball teams.

“As a parent and taxpayer, I expect our kids to receive a top-notch education, and I expect the district to be an expert in how to deliver that high-quality education in a cost-effective manner."

He notes that the district has strong taxpayer support and is fortunate to be in a strong financial position.

“Since the 2005 referendum we have had a strong operating budget that allows us to make modest investments in improving the educational experience each year,” Kluge continued. “We need to push ourselves to make our schools meaningfully better while living within our current tax basis.”

In his career, Kluge has spent over 20 years in business. He is currently managing director at Nexus Advisors, a strategy consulting firm in Chicago. He works with clients to use primary research and information sources to understand customer needs and then works with those clients to help them make organizational changes to better align with those needs.

Kluge holds a B.A. in marketing from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA in finance, management, and strategy from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Scott and his wife have three children in the district with their youngest recently entering kindergarten. In his free time, he likes to travel with family and friends, read about current events and historical fiction, and experiment with how to use new technology.
