Endorsed candidate: Michael Rosenbaum

Michael Rosenbaum has been on the Deerfield Public Schools (DPS) 109 Board of Education for two terms and is currently seeking a third term. As an engaged parent and member of the community, he has coached AYSO soccer for many years and provided pro-bono legal assistance to those with limited resources. He is a former Jewish Community Center (JCC) board member, who was involved in building and opening Northbrook’s Bernard Weinger JCC.

Rosenbaum has served in many roles on the Board of Education since first being elected in 2001. He currently chairs the Board’s Finance Committee and serves as a member of the EDC Committee—the committee responsible for setting the superintendent’s goals and compensation for district administrators—and the Technology Committee. Previously, he was part of the Negotiations Committee, responsible for negotiating contracts with teachers and support staff, and was the representative to the District 109 Foundation Board.

His dedication to the community is a reflection of his heart and family heritage. “I thought about being a board member for some time. My mom was a special education teacher in Waukegan, my brother teaches in Northbrook, and my dad was a school board member of a K-12 district in Michigan when I was growing up,” he explains. “I know the challenges he faced and the satisfaction he received. As a result, the conversations in our family often revolved around schools, teachers, school boards, and other educational issues.”

“The more I get involved in and learn about District 109, the more I like it, and the more I want to stay involved.”

“The more I get involved in and learn about District 109, the more I like it, and the more I want to stay involved,” Rosenbaum continues. “Talking to community members, going through the caucus process, and holding discussions with current board members, Dr. Goier, administrators and principals have confirmed my interest and desire to continue as a Board member. I have enjoyed my last two terms on the Board and would like to have the opportunity to bring my knowledge and experience to the Board for another term.”

Rosenbaum is currently a partner with the law firm Drinker, Biddle & Reath, where he has been for his entire 21-year career. He is one of the leaders of his practice group, which is one of the largest and most well-known employee benefit groups in the United States.

Rosenbaum earned his undergraduate degree in accounting from Michigan State University, becoming a CPA in 1985, and received his law degree cum laude from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1987.

Michael and his wife, Beth, have two daughters, Jamie and Abby. Jamie is a freshman at Deerfield High School, and Abby is a 7th grader at Caurso. In his free time, Mike enjoys golf, tennis, reading, and experimenting with any kind of new technology.
